Job description

At Project Picoballoon, we’re building the next generation of atmospheric monitoring with ultra-light, solar-powered balloons that autonomously travel the globe, gathering real-time weather data at a fraction of the cost of satellites.

Our mission is clear: make high-quality environmental data accessible, affordable, and scalable for researchers, governments, and communities worldwide. By revolutionizing climate monitoring, we’re not just improving weather prediction, we’re providing critical information for climate resilience and disaster prevention.

Key responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the product owner on developing and planning the UX/UI roadmap for our software products.

  • Planning and developing UX architecture.

  • Ideate, wireframe, prototype, design, and test intuitive user interfaces for our software hub, including a mission control dashboard, meteorological data visualization tools, and weather balloon management tools.

  • Collaborate with our communications department to ensure brand consistency in visual design and storytelling.

  • Create comprehensible documentation based on your research and work.

  • Collaborate with software engineers and product managers on integrating design into a production-ready product.

Who are we looking for

Required skills and experience
  • Final-year university student or graduate in UX/UI design, Digital product design, HCI, or a related field.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating UI design, interactive prototypes, and data visualization.

  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch (we use Figma)

Experience designing complex dashboards or data-heavy interfaces.

  • Strong understanding of modern UX principles

  • Solid understanding and experience with UX research methods and usability testing.

  • English proficiency (B2 or higher) for writing technical reports and documentation.

Preferred skills
  • Experience with design systems and component libraries.

  • Familiarity with data visualization libraries (e.g., D3. js, Chart. js) or GIS tools.

  • Understanding of climate tech, environmental data, or mapping platforms.

  • Previous collaboration with engineering teams in a startup or fast-paced environment.

  • Interest in scientific storytelling and visual communication.

  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript (+ frameworks) and how designs are implemented.
