The history of F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. in the Slovak Republic dates back to the year 1989 and is represented by a Pharmaceutical division, Diagnostics division, and Diabetes Care. Roche Slovensko s.r.o. has a strong position among the top five pharmaceutical companies on the Slovak market despite of tough competition from companies who also carry OTC products. In Slovakia, we focus on marketing and sales for the main therapeutic areas: Oncology, Virology, Haematology, Transplant, Osteoporosis, and Rheumatology.

Roche’s market evolution since 2000

Before the year 2000, Roche was, according to IMS, among the twenty top selling companies on the Slovak pharmaceutical market. In 2000, the company placed 18th in the sale of medical drugs on the entire pharmaceutical market. A turnover in company sales came in 2005 with the approval of revolutional treatment methods in many medical fields, as well as new oncological drug indications, especially with the drugs Avastin, Mabthera, Herceptin, Bonviva, Tarceva, and others. The rise of oncologic treatment was reflected in the fact that in 2006, the company placed 4th in the sale of pharmaceuticals on the Slovak market. Our company has been a top seller in the prescription drug group since 2008, and a top seller on the entire pharmaceutical market in Slovakia since 2009.

From 2000 till 2009, the company’s annual growth rate was larger than that of the entire pharmaceutical market. The company’s annual growth rate was between 19 - 49 %, while the market’s 1 - 15 %. The last to join the family of products on the Slovak market was RoActemra in 2009. It is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.

The Diagnostics division is active in all market segments from scientific research and clinical laboratory systems to patient self-monitoring. Thanks to a broad range of innovative diagnostic tests and systems that play a pivotal role in the groundbreaking area of integrated healthcare solutions and cover the early detection, targeted screening, evaluation, and monitoring of disease, Roche has an outstanding position in the relevant Slovak markets.

Roche Diabetes Care’s Accu-Chek products are all designed with the basic aim of helping people with diabetes live healthy productive lives and to make managing diabetes easier. In addition to offering greater convenience, monitoring systems with integrated lancets and test strips and software for storing and analysing data improve glycemic (blood glucose) control for many users. Further, for those who need an up-to-date diabetes therapy management, insulin pumps are offered. New and innovative products in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and services offering significant benefits over existing options strengthen Roche Diabetes Care's position in the Slovak market.

Roche Slovensko s.r.o., is based in the center of Bratislava. The Pharmaceutical division employs 75 people; 35 people work for the Diagnostics division, and Diabetes Care employs 11 employees.
