Job description

POSITION: Intern/Local Intern for RSO Section
WORK HOURS: 20 hours per week
LENGHT OF INTERNSHIP: up to 6 months
START OF INTERNSHIP: March/April 2024

U.S. Embassy Bratislava is looking for motivated, interested candidates to do an internship in the Regional Security Office (RSO), which is responsible for the protection of the Embassy facility and U.S. diplomatic personnel in Slovakia. The RSO Intern will assist the Embassy’s Regional Security Office manage the Embassy’s Local Guard Force, as well as oversee projects supporting the Embassy’s Residential Security Program, Foreign Service National Investigators’ office, and Marine Security Guard programs. The RSO Intern will gain professional experience performing a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
• Drafting and sending correspondence on behalf of the Embassy Bratislava RSO Office
• Drafting security notices, analysis memos, reports, and other security related documents
• Preparing and conducting security briefings with members of the RSO team
• Assisting the RSO office with preparing and executing a security plan for major events sponsored by the Embassy, including the Annual 4th of July Embassy event
• Attending meetings with the RSO on a variety of security matters, both inside and outside of the Embassy
• Assisting with training sessions for RSO personnel
• Planning teambuilding activities, including external community service events
• Assisting Embassy during visits by U.S. Government officials and VIPs
• Monitoring open-source websites, social media, and local and foreign media sources to assist the RSO Office with identifying security trends and issues, as well as reporting on demonstration events
• Assisting the RSO Office in emergency preparedness and response, including planning and participating in drill scenarios
• Assisting with the RSO Office in updating the Embassy’s Emergency Action Plan
• Translating documents, presentations, letters, and small meetings
• Performing general clerical duties

TO APPLY

• Motivation Letter - Statement of interest in English to include objectives and motivation for seeking the internship and how their academic coursework and other experiences relate to the internship (max. one standard page)
• Any other documentation, if relevant (e.g. short writing sample in English, certificates, awards)
