Python Developer focused on UX

U. S. Steel will welcome in its ranks a Python Developer with focus on UX to develop scalable Python-based applications that will improve process efficiencies and plant operations in line with the overarching strategic and tactical objectives of the company.

As a UX Developer in U. S. Steel, you will contribute to internal IT team and other business stakeholders and implement software solutions with measurable business value. You will work on multiple projects with data scientists, other software developers and project managers. The technology stack that we use is based on Python, R, Docker, JavaScript, SQL and NoSQL databases, and visualization tools like PowerBI. Being an excellent developer with strong analytical thinking is more important than having experience with all the technologies listed.

Basic duties and responsibilities
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the organization to understand requirements and convert them to solutions
• Design and define storyboards, user stories, wireframes, mockups and prototypes to optimal communicate interaction and design ideas
• Create an adaptive UI that supports multiple languages, devices and screen aspect ratios
• Create widget objects, which allow easy future modifications and extensions
• Write server-side Python code that powers the user interface
• Translate functional requirements into conceptual and detailed design
• Trouble-shoot software issues, and implement bug fixes
• Write quality, clean and maintainable code using programming best practices
• Help develop and apply new technologies, with new design practices

Additional requirements:

• Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Statistics/Mathematics, Information Technology
• 2+ year experience in Python programming
• Hands-on experience in front-end development
• Experience in Agile development
• Experience with developing automatic tests and Docker deployment
• Strong database design skills and fluency in SQL statements
• Methodical, organized, productive, solution-oriented approach with an ability to multi-task
• Self-starting, fast learner
• Ability to work independently and as a team player
• Upper intermediate (B2) English
