Job description

LEAF Academy is an international boarding high school located in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Academy opened its doors in 2016 and is one of the few full-boarding schools in the Central Europe region and was designed with the intent to create a strong boarding culture where learning often happens outside the classroom.

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant who will work together with the Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) and provide individualised support for students with learning differences (LD) through the academic, personal and behavioural elements of school life.

This will include:

  • Supporting LD students on a 1:1 basis in the classroom

  • Providing targeted support outside of the classroom

  • Working on differentiated activities with individual or groups of students

  • Working with teachers in their ongoing support for LD students eg. helping to provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, quizzes/tests, graphic organisers, etc.

  • Meeting with the LSC to provide student feedback, plan and deliver individualised student provision

  • Facilitating inclusion in small group activities with peers and supporting interaction between them.

  • Working with teachers to monitor the progress of pupils and assist in adapting lessons

  • Willingness to develop professionally in order to keep up to date with developments in working with students with LDs.

This role is especially suitable for university students of special needs education or fresh graduates.

  • Fluent English speaker (Fluency in Slovak or Czech is highly desirable)

  • Ability to engage with young people and build rapport easily

  • Willingness to acquire new skills and knowledge relevant to the role

  • Trustworthy, reliable, able to maintain confidentiality and integrity

  • Positive, enthusiastic and proactive attitude

  • University student or degree in the field of Special education and learning differences

  • Proven experience of working with young people

  • Experience of working with young people with LDs is an advantage
