LEAF Academy is looking for an experienced physics educator who can teach AP Physics 1, and/or AP Physics 2, and/or AP Physics C.
In AP Physics 1, the students learn about the foundational principles of physics as they explore Newtonian mechanics; work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits. This course is designed to be the equivalent of a first-semester introductory college course in algebra-based physics.
In AP Physics 2 the students expand their understanding of physics as they explore topics such as fluids; thermodynamics; electric force, field, and potential; electric circuits; magnetism and electromagnetic induction; geometric and physical optics; and quantum, atomic, and nuclear physics. This course is designed to be the equivalent of a second-semester introductory college course in algebra-based physics.
In AP Physics C students explore concepts such as kinematics; Newton’s laws of motion, work, energy, and power; systems of particles and linear momentum; rotation; oscillations; and gravitation + concepts such as electrostatics, conductors, capacitors and dielectrics, electric circuits, magnetic fields, and electromagnetism. In all the courses students also do hands-on laboratory work to investigate phenomena. This course is designed to be the equivalent of a semester-long, introductory calculus-based college course in physics.
The combination with calculus and/or chemistry is desirable.
The ability to differentiate in curriculum and instruction, and curriculum development are desirable. A passion for Entrepreneurial leadership is also welcome.
Covered topics in Physics 1: kinematics, dynamics, circular motion and gravitation, energy, momentum, simple harmonic motion, torque and rotational motion, electric charge and electric force, DC circuits, and mechanical waves and sound
Covered topics in Physics 2: fluids, thermodynamics, electrical force, field, and potential; electric circuits; magnetism and electromagnetic induction; geometric and physical optics; and quantum, atomic, and nuclear physics
Covered topics in Physics C: Mechanics + Electricity And Magnetism: kinematics; Newton’s laws of motion, work, energy, and power; systems of particles and linear momentum; rotation; oscillations; and gravitation + concepts such as electrostatics, conductors, capacitors and dielectrics, electric circuits, magnetic fields, and electromagnetism
Both courses within AP Physics C are taught within one school year in the following order: Mechanics, Electricity and magnetism LEAF Academy currently offers AP Physics C, but based on the discussion with the potential candidate, we can offer AP Physics 1 or 2 instead of AP Physics C
Besides of above responsibilities assume (applies only to a full-time position – combination with a different subject is needed):
Advisory role - responsible for a small group of students, conduct regular weekly meetings, providing support and mentoring to students when necessary
Residential duties: regular weekday and weekend duties in the dormitory
co-curriculars: being part of the co-curriculars programme, e.g., offering a club
Course specific skills: lab skills – setting the experiments, creating student-oriented lab procedures, excellent time-management, ability to design inquiry-based investigations focused on different topics, expert in algebra and calculus, geometry, expert in following science practices: modeling (using representations and models), mathematical routines, scientific questioning, experimental methods, data analysis, argumentation and making connections (ability to show across multiple topics)
Passion for LEAF Academy’s mission and alignment with the LEAF values
Proactive and entrepreneurial mindset coupled with preference for teamwork
Organized, problem-solver, self-starter
Willing to mentor and guide students
Capable of working well under pressure
Sense of humor and ability to deal with ambiguity
Advanced English language
Passion and expertise in Math and Physics
